Budget 2014-2015 Information

Budget Passes -Thank you to Community!

West Genesee residents approved the 2014-2015 budget and bus proposition on May 20, 2014. The $77,054,420  budget received 1,454 favorable votes and 323 votes in opposition.

A second proposition to purchase school buses was approved 1,340 to 435. Thank you to the community for your continued support!

Another proposition that would provide funding for three area libraries (Maxwell, Fairmount and Onondaga) was put to a vote and also approved with 1,346 votes in favor and 413 votes opposed. 

Board of Education Candidates are Elected

Elected to the Board of Education for three-year terms beginning in July, are incumbent Neil Widrick  with 1,031.  New to the Board is James Soper with 1,143 votes and Shawn Mitchell with 821 votes. Mary Ellen Elia received 657 votes and Emily Woloszyn received 597 votes.

Voting Information - Q&A

  • When and Where is the Budget Vote? - The Annual School District Board of Education Election and Budget Vote will take place from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, in the West Genesee High School Auditorium Lobby.
  • Who is Eligible to Vote? - You are eligible to vote on May 20 if you are a U.S. citizen, 18 years or older, and have been a District resident for at least 30 days prior to the vote. No pre-registration is required although personal identification may be requested at the polls. Questions? Call the District Clerk at 315-487-4563.
  • Can I Vote by Absentee Ballot? - Residents who will not be in the area on May 20 may apply for an absentee ballot at the District Office. If the absentee ballot is to be mailed to the voter, the application must be submitted at least seven days prior to the vote. If the absentee ballot is to be picked up by the voter in person, applications will be accepted until May 19. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 20.

Superintendent Dr. Christopher Brown will be giving a visual presentation to explain the proposed 2014-2015 school budget at these PTA/PTO and public meetings:

April 28 - OR/ST/WGMS/WGHS - 7:00 p.m. at the High School Large Group Instruction (LGI) Room

May 5 - EH/SR/CMS/WGHS - 7:00 p.m. at the High School Large Group Instruction (LGI) Room

May 7 - Budget Public Hearing - 7:00 p.m. at the High School Library

The public is invited to attend any of these presentations.
