Frequently Asked Questions...

Question:

How is my child care impacted by redistricting?  I have a registered child care provider in one attendance zone but my child will be attending school in another attendance zone.

Answer:

Your child will attend school in the attendance zone in which they reside.  We will provide transportation to the registered day care provider wherever that might be in the District.

Question:

I have a child entering 5th grade, as well as other children in grades K-4.  If I can transport my 5th grader so they can stay in their "home" school for their last year can my other children also attend the same school and not be redistricted if I provide transportation for them as well?

Answer:  (Updated August 18, 2012)

The 5th grade student and their younger sibling can be transported to their "home" school for the 5th grade year.  When the 5th grader enters middle school, they will attend the "new" middle school and the younger sibling will attend the "new" elementary school.

Question:

I have an 8th grade student as well as another child in the middle school, and I would like to have my 8th grader attend their "home" school for their 8th grade year.  I can provide transportation.  Can my other middle school-aged child(ren) also attend the "home" middle school without being redistricted if I provide transportation as well?

Answer:

This question can be answered on a case by case basis depending on class size.

Question:

My children are delivered to an unregistered child care provider (grand parent, aunt, uncle, etc...) that is not being redistricted, yet my home is being redistricted.  Where will the bus take my children?

Answer:

We do not provide transportation to unregistered child care providers that are outside of new attendance areas. We would not be able to pick up your children under this scenario.  We would help to find a designated bus stop that could be used by your child care provider to get them to their new school.  We can provide a list of stops closest to your non-registered child care provider if you contact the District Office at 487-4682.

Question:

My child is in a grade other than 5th or 8th yet I want them to complete at the their "home" school, and I am willing to provide transportation.  Can they stay in their "home" school?

Answer:

Children who are not in 5th or 8th grade and have parents who are willing to transport are still going to attend their new school under the redistricting plan.

Question:

Are there "special cases" that would allow us to bend the rules?

Answer:

Consistency is key.  All of our children are special to us.  If one case can be accommodated, then we would honor that same accommodation to all other children in the exact same scenario.  There are less than a handful of truly "unique" situations in this redistricting plan and they are related to students with profound disabilities.
