The Sound of Music will ring out at Camillus Middle School on November 6 at 7:00 p.m. and November 7 at 3:00 p.m. In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the critically acclaimed film, Camillus Middle School is presenting the Tony award winning musical by, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II.
Based on the true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, The Sound of Music captures the heartwarming tale of young postulant Maria Reiner (Cassidi Callaghan), whose free spirit gets her commissioned by the Mother Abbess (Grace Miller) to serve as governess to the seven children of widow, Captain Von Trapp (Eric Leubner). Maria transforms the Captain's stuffy household into a music filled home and in doing so, wins the heart of the children and the Captain, to the dismay of his fiance, The Baroness Schraeder, (Amalia Traino).
The Von Trapp Children include: Leisl (Abigail Ray), Friedrich (Virgil Dombroske), Louisa (Emily Bolen), Kurt (Andrew Gentilcore), Brigitta (Laura Alvaro), Marta (Amelia Rufa) and Gretl (Madison Campbell). When Captain Von Trapp is commissioned to serve in the naval forces of the Third Reich, the family flees their beloved Austria and the grips of Herr Zeller (Gavin Gonzalez) and Admiral Von Schreiber (Aidan Sperduti), by singing in the Kaltzberg musical festival, presided over by friend and MC, Max Detweiler (Matthew Cabiles). The good sisters of Nonnberg Abbey: Sister Margaretta, (Eleanor Moran); Sister Sophia, (Claire Kitts; and Sister Berthe (Ciarra Thompson) aid them in their escape.
A terrific ensemble rounds out the cast of this year’s production. This year's musical is directed by Kristyn Sperduti with music direction by Donald Schuessler, Costumes by Cindy Kissane and Set Construction/Painting by Jeff Bowe.
Tickets are $8 at the door.
