Camillus Middle School Students Present Damn Yankees

POSTED ON OCTOBER 31, 2017

Camillus Middle School students will present "Damn Yankees," the 11 time TONY award winning musical comedy written by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop, with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, as their fall musical.

Set in 1955, the show is a modern retelling of the Faust legend. We meet Meg (Janaya Jones) and Joe (Andrew Gentilcore) Boyd, a middle-aged couple, during baseball season. Joe is an avid Washington Senators fan, however the team is not great and always loses to the New York Yankees. After one particularly bad loss, Joe makes a passing remark that he would "sell his soul for just one long ball hitter!" Suddenly, the smooth talking Mr. Applegate (Grant Mathews), better known as Satan, appears and offers him a deal to become that "long ball hitter." Joe decides to become the young 22-year-old phenom Joe Hardy (Matthew Craybas) and earns a place on the Washington Senators roster.

Throughout Joe's journey, there are hurdles to jump over at every turn as Applegate tries to ensnare him into losing his soul. A nosy reporter, Gloria Thorpe (Sophia Morphet) does her best to dig up Joe's past. Lola (Heidi Walsh), Joe's biggest distraction, delivers some of the musical's biggest show stopping numbers including A Little Brains, A Little Talent, Whatever Lola Wants, and Who's Got the Pain? Benny Van Buren (Sean Alvaro), the Senators manager, and Mr. Welch (Aidan Sperduti), the owner, can't believe their luck as Joe leads the last place Senators on a great winning streak towards the playoffs.

Sophia Patriarco, Olivia Desantis-Colier, Christian Becker, Holden Leonard, Max Miller, Ewan Moran and a terrific ensemble cast fill out the rest of characters as they bring this Faust tale to the stage.

Please join us on Friday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 4 at 2:00 p.m. to see this terrific cast. Drama/music direction and production by Don Schuessler; Costume design by Cindy Kissane; Choreography by Heather Molina, and set building/painting and design by Jeff Bowe, assisted by Jenny Gettino.
