On May 5, Camillus Middle School had the privilege to host celebrated author and Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan. Marion wrote "Four Perfect Pebbles", a memoir of her experiences living through the atrocities of the Holocaust with her mother, father and brother.
She spoke to eighth graders about her book and her personal journey including the six years she spent as a young girl during World War II in a Nazi concentration camp. Lazan described horrific conditions such as lack of sanitation, meager food rations and crowded barracks.
Her story, however, was one of hope, perseverance and the will to survive. She urged students to appreciate their blessings and to be kind and good towards one another. Most importantly, she asked them to share her story of the Holocaust with others so that it will never be repeated. Students were riveted by her outstanding presentation and Lazan received a standing ovation. West Genesee hopes to welcome her back next year.
