High School Students Experience a Simulated DWI Crash for their Peers

POSTED ON MAY 16, 2014

On Friday, May 16, 2014, a simulated car crash was conducted at West Genesee High School by the Camillus Police Department, Fairmount Fire Department, Waves Ambulance, Buranich Funeral Home, Meyers Collision, the District Attorney and Medical Examiner's Office with students from the high school.

When asked what the purpose of the exercise is,  Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Chris Brown, responded, "To me this exercise is to give the students a heightened awareness of what can happen if bad decisions are made behind the wheel of a car."

Almost 400 seniors witnessed the demonstration as many of them planned to finish out the day at their Senior Ball which many of them plan to drive to.

The cast was made up of the following Lynn Copeland, Jasmine (Rosie) Bellow, Vincent McCauley, Sarah Sauda, Kathryn Galimi,  William Viau and Haley Kirkpatrick. In front portraying the student who dies in the crash is Neil Goodman. Also a special thank you to Steve Knapp for doing the make-up for the actors.
