WGHS Decathlon Team Wins the State Competition!  Off to Alaska!

The State Academic Decathlon Competition was held on February 26-27 at SUNY Brockport with competitors from Mesa Charter School (Brooklyn), Lyndonville, Cazenovia, and Tully High Schools.

The team from West Genesee High School came in first overall and also won the Super Quiz. They brought home a total of 32 medals from the whole competition with three of the top five overall scores: Hannah Humphrey (1st in the whole competition), Parker Ventura, and Jordan Koster and they were offered $500 scholarships to Brockport.

Also, Hannah Humphrey and Timothy Gardner II won trophies for top scores in their divisions.

Individual medals were awarded for the highest scores on six objective written tests in music, art, language and literature, science, mathematics, and economics.

Hannah Humphrey (4): 1 Gold - Essay; 1 Silver - Interview; 2 Bronze - Economics and Music

Parker Ventura (5):  3 Gold - Speech, Language/Literature, and Math; 1 Silver - Essay; 1 Bronze- Interview

Jordan Koster (4): 3 Gold - Economics, Art, and Music; 1 Silver - Social Science

James Sandefur (6): 4 Gold - Speech, Math, Economics, and Art; 2 Bronze - Language /Literature, and Social Science   

Timothy Gardner II (5): 2 Gold - Science and Social Science; 3 Silver - Math, Language /Literature, and Music

Jenna Hickey (3): Top scores as Alternate in Essay, Math, and Economics

Elizabeth Zoanetti (3): 1 Gold - Math; 2 Bronze - Essay and Interview

Jasmine Hamilton (2): 1 Gold - Social Science; 1 Bronze - Interview  

Other members competing were: Carolina Creighton, Aaron Unger, Kasey Knox. Other members on the team were: Maura Philippone, Marisa Hurst, Dylan Casolare, Cameron Mitchell, Mahima Patel, Madyson Kelly, Julianna Lisi, and Tyler Troch-Stirpe.

Their coach, Scott Duda, is a WGHS Living Environment teacher who has been meeting with the team since the fall to prepare for the Decathlon.

Education Fair at East Hill is a Success 

East Hill Elementary School held its 2nd Annual Education Fair on Tuesday, March 15.

The night began with students and their families playing math games in the classrooms. They then went to the gymnasium where over 80 science and reading projects were on display.

It was an exciting night at East Hill!  

District Calendar for 2016-2017 Approved at BOE Meeting

The District Calendar for 2016-2017 was approved by the Board of Education at their meeting on March 16, 2016.

Additional Days Off Because of Snow (or rather lack of....)

Superintendent, Dr. Christopher Brown, announced this week that if we have no additional emergency closing days our "give back" days will be Friday, June 24 and Friday, May 27. If we have an emergency closing between now and then, May 27 will be reinstated as a regular school day, followed by June 24 if we have a second emergency closing.

Thank you to the Community for Supporting the West Genesee 8th Annual Culture Fair

The 8th Annual Culture Fair was held at the high school on Saturday, March 5.   

This was a fantastic family event for all ages that was free and open to the public. It is designed to help promote understanding of the various social, ethnic, and cultural influences in our very own community and beyond.     

A variety of cultural and ethnic displays, artifacts, and presentations were available, along with live dancing, music, food tasting, arts and crafts, and T-Shirts.   

Thank you to our sponsors: our local TOPS,  Camillus Police Benevolent Association, and the West Genesee District PTA/PTO/PTSO Council.

Budget Presentations are Scheduled

Superintendent Dr. Christopher Brown will be giving a visual presentation to explain the proposed 2016-2017 school budget at these PTA/PTO and public meetings:

April 18 - 7:00 p.m. at the High School Large Group Instruction (LGI) Room

May 4 - Budget Public Hearing - 7:00 p.m. at the High School Library

The public is invited to attend any of these presentations.

Kindergarten Registration Has Been Extended Through April 8

Kindergarten Registration for the 2016-2017 school year was held this year from February 1 to March 4 at the Central Registrar Office located at 300 Sanderson Drive, Camillus, NY 13031.

If you were unable to register during that time, please visit our website to set up an appointment through April 8, 2016. 

Prior to coming in to register, you will need to make an appointment by clicking on the "Click Here to Schedule an Appointment" icon above or by calling the Central Registrar at 315-487-4683.
