Transportation Receives High Marks

Congratulations to our Transportation Department who have again achieved the goal of a 90% or greater pass rate on their annual NYS Department of Transportation Bus Inspection.

Our out-of-service rate was 3.2%, while the NYS average is 5.2% and the tolerance is 10%. Superintendent Dr. Brown shared, "We did remarkably well considering we have been shortanded much of the year."

This commendable performance indicates a strong dedication to safety and a commitment to sound maintenance standards and practices.

Author and Holocust Survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan Talks to West Genesee Students

On May 17, West Genesee middle and high school students had the privilege to host celebrated author and Holocaust survivor Marion Blumenthal Lazan.  She wrote "Four Perfect Pebbles", a memoir of her experiences living through the atrocities of the Holocaust with her mother, father and brother.

She spoke to the students about her book and her personal journey including the six years she spent as a young girl during World War II in a Nazi concentration camp. Lazan described horrific conditions such as lack of sanitation, meager food rations and crowded barracks.

Her story, however, was one of hope, perseverance and the will to survive. She urged students to appreciate their blessings and to be kind and good towards one another.  Most importantly, she asked them to share her story of the Holocaust with others so that it will never be repeated.
