Finalists Move on to Post-Standard Spelling Bee

West Genesee Middle School students Joseph Paoli came in first place and Cooper Corcoran in second place as they faced-off spelling such words as "tenacious" and hostilities"in the West Genesee Spelling Bee held on November 8.

West Genesee will send 12 students to join others from Central New York for a written test in February. The top 35 spellers from that round will compete in The Post-Standard WCNY Spelling Bee oral spell-down in February.  MORE   

Students and Staff are Honored by the Camillus Optimists

On November 6, Victoria DeSantis and Michael McGuigan from West Genesee High School; Anita Edgar and Liam O'Connor from Camillus Middle School; and Julia Biggs and Connor Dunham from West Genesee Middle School were honored by the Camillus Optimists with the David Kenna Outstanding Student Award.

Cheryl Miedaner (West Genesee High School Social Studies teacher), Toni Abdo (West Genesee Middle School Math teacher), and Ann Davis-Allen (Split Rock Elementary School Special Education teacher) each received the 2017 Joseph A. Witowski Outstanding Teacher Award.   MORE

West Genesee Athletics Update....

The Girls Tennis doubles team of Katie Viau and Mikayla Mannara placed 2nd at Sectionals and Regionals which qualified them to participate in the NYS Championships.

The Boys Golf team had a successful season by winning the Section III Championship. Nicholas Bove placed 2nd, Jack Corcoran 7th, James LaValle and Daniel Benetti tied for 10th place while Timothy DiPaola placed 14th. All five golfers will compete in the NYS Championship in the Spring.

The Boys and Girls Cross-Country runners had a solid season this year. At Sectionals, Matthew Bartolotta placed 10th and qualified for the NYS Championship placing 90th while Carly Benson placed 9th at Sectionals and 37th at the NYS Championship.  

The Girls Swim team has a Section III Champion in Madison Zapisek who won the 200 yard Freestyle and will compete at the NYS Championships on November 17-18 at Ithaca College.

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team made it to the Semi-Finals of the Section III Championships.

The Girls Varsity Cheerleaders had another successful season by winning the Section III Championship!

Numerous West Genesee Athletes have been awarded League and Section honors. When those lists are made public we will make updates.

WGMS Presents.... A Charlie Brown Christmas!  

West Genesee Middle School is proud to present the musical A Charlie Brown Christmas.

The classic animated television special A Charlie Brown Christmas comes to life in this faithful stage adaptation. This was first shown as an animated television special in 1965 and has been part of the holiday tradition ever since. The stage adaptation was completed in 2013.

This year's production at WGMS stars the following students along with their respective cast roles: Charlie: Matthew Murdock; Snoopy: Elizabeth Quinn and Piper Mauro; Lucy: Ava Morey-Farley; Linus: Caleb Williams; Sally: Samantha Sapio; PigPen: Jaden Mattimore; Frieda: Danyella Roper; Schroeder: Gavin Provo; Violet: Anna Caruso and Sofia Bjelanovic; Patty: Maggie Kaminski and Eryn Cervino; and Shermy: Joseph Paoli.

Featuring approximately 80 additional cast and crew members! This year for the first time ever we will also be presenting live action commercials for local businesses, as well as a raffle for numerous Charlie Brown/Peanuts related items.

Performances are Thursday, November 16 and  Friday, November 17 at 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $6 at the door.  MORE
