Finalists Move on to Post-Standard Spelling Bee

The top twelve spellers to go on to compete at the next level are pictured above. In front, from left to right, are Ava Propper, Ben Paoli, Joey Paoli, Laura Alvaro, Logan Battaglia, and Thomas Purdy. In the back row, from left to right, are Francis Coots, Emily Pattermann, Connor Dunham, Eleanor Moran, Grant Mathews, Cooper Ponto.

West Genesee Middle School students, Ben Paoli and Ava Propper, faced-off spelling such words as "amnesty" and "exonerate" until they exhausted all of the challenge words, so the judges determined them both to be the winners in the West Genesee Spelling Bee held on November 9.

This year, West Genesee will send 12 students to join others from Central New York for a written test in January. The top 35 spellers from that round will compete in The Post-Standard WCNY Spelling Bee oral spell-down in February.  MORE

West Genesee Athletics Update....

The Girls Tennis doubles team of Katie Viau and Mikayla Mannara  came in 2nd in Sectionals and Regionals but also qualified and participated in the NYS Championships.

The Boys Golf team had a successful season placing 3rd at the Section III Championship. Joseph Morgan placed 2nd and Dylan Plis placed 4th.

The Boys and Girls Cross-Country runners are still competing. You are also living in the "fastest" section in New York State thanks in part to the individual efforts of cross country runners Emily Young (36th place A girls) and Mia Mitchell (64th place A girls) and David Leff (18th place A boys). We are in Section III and the athletes competed for individual New York State Cross-Country Championships this past weekend. They and other runners from our section combined their finishing scores to solidify the intersectional scoring win and bragging rights for Section III runners everywhere.

The West Genesee Girls team of Young, Mitchell, Benson, Dombroske, Craybas and Morey qualified for the NYS Federation Championships that will take place on Saturday, November 19, in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The Girls Varsity Volleyball team took 2nd place in the Section III Championship.

The Girls Varsity Cheerleaders placed 2nd in the Section III Championship.

Numerous West Genesee Athletes have been awarded League and Section honors. When those lists are made public we will make updates.
