Camillus Middle School sixth graders, Carter Leonard and Eric Leubner  faced-off spelling such words as "tenacious" and "hostilities" until Leonard emerged as the first place winner in the West Genesee Spelling Bee held on November 4.

This year, West Genesee will send 12 students to join others from Central New York for a written test in January. The top 35 spellers from that round will compete in The Post-Standard WCNY Spelling Bee oral spell-down in February.  MORE

WGMS Presents....The Happy Elf

West Genesee Middle School is proud to present Harry Connick Jr.'s The Happy Elf, November 19 and 20 at 7:00 p.m., and November 21 at 2:00 p.m.

The Happy Elf tells the tale of Eubie the Elf, a lovable fellow who wants to spread Christmas joy throughout the town of Bluesville. Hoping to introduce a new generation of children to the joys of jazz, Connick has crafted a musical landscape against which Eubie's story unfolds.

Families will love this festive tale of overcoming adversity, friendship, the power of positivity and believing in yourself! The Happy Elf is destined to become a holiday classic. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $6.00. MORE

West Genesee Athletics Update....

The Girls Tennis doubles team of Samantha Heyn and Mikayla Mannara came in 2nd in Sectionals and Regionals but also qualified and participated in the NYS Championships.

The Boys Golf team had a successfull season winning the Section III Championship qualifying for the NYS Championships that take place in the Spring.

The Boys and Girls Cross-Country runners are still competing. You are also living in the "fastest" section in New York State thanks in part to the individual efforts of cross country runners Carly Benson (4th place AA girls) and David Leff (11th place AA boys). We are in Section III and the athletes competed for individual New York State Cross-Country Championships this past weekend. They and other runners from our section combined their finishing scores to solidify the intersectional scoring win and bragging rights for Section III runners everywhere.

Leff and Benson both qualified individually for the NYS Federation Championships on Saturday in Poughkeepsie, NY.

The Girls Swimming/Diving team took 2nd place in the Section III Championship.

Numerous West Genesee Athletes have been awarded League and Section honors. When those lists are made public we will make updates.
