Dr. Brown has posted an update to his Notes from the Superintendent where he discusses strategic planning, athletic milestones, the high school musical, and shares that a WGMS student has won the Spelling Bee to compete at the National Scripps Spelling Bee Competition.
The Academic Decathlon was held at Westhill High School on January 21 with competitors from Cazenovia, Liverpool, Tully, Westhill, and West Genesee high schools. The team from West Genesee High School came in first overall. The top three teams will advance to the state competition at SUNY Brockport to be held on February 26-27.
West Genesee High School students will present the musical Mary Poppins!, at the high school auditorium. Shows are Thursday, February 9 and Friday, February 10, at 7:00 p.m., with 2 shows Saturday, February 11, at 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at etix.com or at the door. Kindergarten Registration for the 2017-2018 school year will be held this year from January 3 to March 3 at the Central Registrar Office located at 300 Sanderson Drive, Camillus, NY 13031. On January 25, eight students gave speeches around the theme, "What the World Gains from Optimism" to members of the Camillus Optimist Club. Congratulations! The Optimists chose Greta Hahn from the high school and Grant Mathews from CMS to represent them at the next level of the 2017 Oratorical Contest to be held in April in Albany, NY.

On December 5, Luis (Manny) Castro and Jessica Bobbett from the high school; Morgan Valerino and Zachary Voss from Camillus Middle School; and Alyssa Battaglia and Joseph Sparks from West Genesee Middle School were honored by the Camillus Optimists with the David Kenna Outstanding Student Award. Robert Deegan (Science Teacher at the high school), Eric Howes (Special Education Teacher at Camillus Middle School), and Laura Hesler (IS Teacher at East Hill Elementary School) received the 2016 Joseph A. Witowski Outstanding Teacher Award.
West Genesee Middle School students, Ben Paoli and Ava Propper, faced-off spelling such words as "amnesty" and "exonerate" until they exhausted all of the challenge words, so the judges determined them both to be the winners in the West Genesee Spelling Bee held on November 9.
Camillus Middle School is proud to present this year's musical, The Little Mermaid, adapted from the classic Disney movie.The performances will be on Friday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 5 at 2:00 p.m. to see this terrific cast. Tickets are $8 general admission at the door. Doors will open one hour prior to each show.

West Genesee High School seniors Jesse Elmer, Julia Musengo, and Amelia Ryan have been named Commended Scholars in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Eleven West Genesee High School musicians were accepted into the All-State Conference to perform in Rochester, December 1-4, 2016. The conference, including the final concerts, will take place at the Rochester Convention Center and is sponsored by the NYS School Music Association.
West Genesee High School seniors Amanda Lowther and Russell Graziano have been named Semi-Finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.

Eighty-seven students and recent graduates of West Genesee High School have been named Advanced Placement Scholars by The College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) Examinations.
New York State Education Law Section 409-H, effective July 1, 2001, requires all public and nonpublic elementary and secondary schools to provide written notification to all persons in parental relation, faculty, and staff regarding the potential use of pesticides periodically throughout the school year.

Thirty-five WGHS students had a total of forty-five perfect scores on their Advanced Placement examinations in May.
The West Genesee PTA/PTO District Council is once again sponsoring a School Supply Drive. The purpose is to provide free school supplies for students in need of assistance who attend any school in the West Genesee School District. Congratulations to the following seven West Genesee athletes that qualified for the Academic All-American honor from the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Assoc. (NISCA): Kaitlin Dunning, Rebecca Kanoza, Jack Barrett, Daniel Pesci, Colin Riley, Victoria Lee, and Emily Green.
West Genesee residents approved the 2016-2017 budget and bus proposition on May 17, 2016. The $82,227,170 budget received 1,394 favorable votes and 257 votes in opposition. Elected to the Board of Education for three-year terms beginning in July, are incumbents Roberta M. Herron with 1,165, and Karen M. Fruscello with 1,093. New to the Board is Eric A. Bacon with 1,316 votes. Tonya D. Wilson received 793 votes. Thank you to the community for your continued support!
On May 13, 2016, the West Genesee Central School District was notified by the New York State Education Department that West Genesee High School has been designated a Reward School for the second year in a row.This signifies that the school is among those in New York State that has made the highest performance with no significant gaps in student achievement. Congratulations!
On Friday, May 13, 2016, a simulated car crash was planned at West Genesee High School. Due to rain, the presentation was modified to an assembly in the lower gymnasium. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible to help make the Senior Ball a fun and safe time!
The National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation has announced the results of its sixteenth annual "Best Communities for Music Education" survey, which acknowledges schools and districts across the U.S. for their commitment and support of music education in schools. This is the eighth consecutive and overall eleventh time West Genesee has been recognized for this honor.
