Welcome to the informational webpage about the West Genesee CSD Universal Pre-K Program.
UPK is a state-funded program that focuses on intellectually, socially and emotionally preparing children for kindergarten.
Information for the 2023-2024 School Year
West Genesee partners with local Community-Based Organizations for its Pre-K program. For 2023-2024, there will be two UPK classes at Stonehedge Elementary, 2 at Holy Family School, and 4 at Learn As You Grow.
To be eligible for UPK during the 2023-2024 school year, a child must:
- Have a birthdate between December 2, 2018 and December 1, 2019
- Reside in the West Genesee Central School District
In the event that more registrations are received than can be accommodated, the district will conduct an initial selection process via an open lottery in which children will be selected at random.
Those children who completed the registration process by March 17 were part of the initial selection process.
Families who were part of the initial selection process have been called in order of selection and informed:
- whether their child has been accepted to the program, and
- which site (including hours of the program) is available for their child;
OR
- where their child is on the waiting list.
Families will be contacted by April 14, 2023.
If at any point after the initial selection process there are more students registered than seats available, students will be placed on the waiting list in the order that their registration was completed.
Transportation to and from the program is the responsibility of parents/guardians, and students must attend the program five days a week to maintain their seat.
Look for registration information on the Central Registration webpage at: https://www.westgenesee.org/district-services/registration/. If you have any questions, email the Central Registrar at centralregistrar@westgenesee.org, or call Central Registration at (315) 487-4683.
When registering, parents should be prepared to upload the following:
- proof of residency (ie. mortgage or property statement or signed lease agreement)
- proof of immunizations
- proof of age

West Genesee offers a full day Universal Pre-Kindergarten program for four-year-old children residing in the West Genesee Central School District. There is no cost to attend this program. Costs associated with the implementation of the program will be covered by funds allocated to the district via New York State.
To be eligible for the program, a child must be four years old on or before December 1, 2022, be a resident of West Genesee, and have all required immunizations. The district has one pre-K classroom at Split Rock elementary school with a maximum of 18 students. Holy Family School will host two UPK classes (maximum 18 children per class). And Learn As You Grow will host three classes (maximum 20 children per class).
This is a five-hour program and children selected to participate must attend the program five days per week. The WG UPK class and the Holy Family UPK classes will be staffed by one certified teacher and one teaching assistant. The Learn As You Grow UPK classes will have one certified teacher and two other adults.
Please note, unlike Holy Family and Learn As You Grow, West Genesee does not offer before/after school services for UPK.
As of June 13, there are 25 children on the waitlist.
However, WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING ADDITIONAL NAMES FOR OUR WAITLIST.
If you were placed on the waitlist following the lottery on May 22, were already called by West Genesee, but have not secured a seat for your child, you are still on the waitlist. Do not need to complete this as you can jeopardize your child’s place on the existing waitlist.
If you are interested in having your child placed on the waitlist for the UPK program for the 2022-23 school year, please complete the survey below. You will be added to the end of the current waitlist (26 names as of June 13) in the order the forms are submitted.
The form is available at: https://forms.gle/
When a seat becomes available, applicants will receive a phone call in order of waitlist position. Families will be offered the location of availability. If the opening is not your site preference, you can decline the seat and drop to the bottom of the waitlist.
Parents/guardians/caregivers whose children are selected for the program will be directed to our online registration link. For more specific information, please visit our website at www.westgenesee.org, or you may call the District Office at 315-487-4562.
