Middle School Summer Reading Lists 2021

Message from the Middle School Librarians

West Genesee Middle and Camillus Middle School offer an identical Summer Reading Program for students entering grades 6-8. The philosophy behind the program is simple: to encourage students to read more by introducing them to contemporary, pleasurable, worthwhile books in the hope that they will become lifelong readers. While not required or mandated, we encourage students to select at least one book to read under their upcoming grade level.

A committee of librarians and teachers has selected the books for each grade level. It is our hope that this program will be a shared experience between students and parents. Therefore, it is highly recommended that parents assist their child in the selection of a book that is appropriate for him or her.

Multiple copies of ebooks and audiobooks for all of the titles are made available for free on Sora through OverDrive. A link to Sora can be found on our webpages. If you or your student need assistance with Sora or you have any other questions related to summer reading, please email Mrs. Bush or Mrs. Chemotti at sbush@westgenesee.org or jchemotti@westgenesee.org.

For a detailed description and summary of each title, check out Mrs. Bush’s video book talks on her YouTube Channel at

All materials are available for loan at the following public libraries; Maxwell, Fairmount, and Onondaga Free. These libraries have our lists and have made multiple copies available in the young adult section – labeled West Genesee Central School District – WGMS and CMS – Summer Reading.
