On June 24, 2021 the Board of Education appointed Michael McGrath as the Principal at West Genesee Middle School. He replaces Stephen Dunham who has been appointed as the new Superintendent of Westhill Schools. McGrath started in his new position on July 1, 2021.
At that same Board meeting, Beth Lozier was appointed to fill the position of Assistant Principal at West Genesee Middle School, previously held by McGrath. She will officially start in that new position on August 3, 2021.
McGrath started in the District as an Assistant Principal at the high school in 2010, and moved over to West Genesee Middle School in that same capacity in 2014. Prior to West Genesee, Mike was at Cicero-North Syracuse High School where he had been the Administrative Assistant of Student Services since 2009 and was a business teacher for eleven years prior to that position.
He received his bachelor’s of science degree in Finance, with a minor in Marketing from Syracuse University, his masters degree in Business Education and his NYS teaching certificate (Business K-12) from Le Moyne College. McGrath received his certificate of advanced study in educational administration from SUNY Cortland in May 2010.
Lozier came to the District in 2004 as the Assistant Principal at West Genesee Middle School, then as a Principal at Stonehedge Elementary School in 2006, and most recently as the Principal at Camillus Middle School for the past 13 years. Prior to joining our District, she was a special education teacher in the Jamesville-DeWitt School District. She also taught sixth grade at Donlin Drive Elementary School and completed her internship at Soule Road Elementary, both located in Liverpool.
She received her bachelor’s degree from the College of St. Elizabeth in business administration/management, and her master ’s degree is in elementary education from Pace University. Her certificate of advanced studies in educational leadership was earned at SUNY Oswego.
Mike shared in a recent letter to parents and staff, “I have been privileged to work by Steve’s side in helping create the vision and culture of WGMS for the past 7 years. I am honored, and more importantly, ready to carry that vision forward. I am also excited to announce that Mrs. Beth Lozier will be joining the WGMS administrative team. Beth brings a wealth of experience as an elementary and middle school principal. She is currently assisting in the transition at Camillus Middle School to a new administrative team. Once that is complete, Beth will join us as the Assistant Principal.”
