On November 4, 2021 Karen Quill was appointed by the Board of Education as the new Assistant Principal at West Genesee High School with an official start date to be determined.
Quill comes to us most recently from the OCM BOCES STARS program where she serves as Principal. STARS is an alternative high school created for student’s success in a less-traditional setting. As part of her almost 20 years in education, she was a special education teacher at Hillside Children’s Center, Port Byron Central School District, and Marcellus Central School District in a range of grade levels including high school. Her training includes Culturally Responsive Classroom Practices, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Schools, Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI), and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS).
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary and Special Education from State University of New York at Geneseo, as well as a Master of Science in Education Students with Disabilities, and Certifications in School District Leader (SDL) and School Building Leader (SBL) from SUNY Cortland.
Superintendent David C. Bills shares, “Interview committees of students, staff, and parents highlighted Karen’s experiences in Social Emotional Learning, emphasis of relationships and communication, and her approach of dignity and respect with expectations. Her experience and impact on past organizations will now become part of our West Genesee culture”
On a personal note, Karen is most proud of her family. Together with her husband, Brian, they are the proud parents of five children ranging in ages from 4 to 21, (Addison, Sam, Lainey, Collin, and Ayla). In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her close friends and family, and traveling.
