Assistant Principals at West Genesee High School are Announced

On June 1, 2022 Michelle Collier and Dan MacCollum were appointed by the Board of Education as the new Assistant Principals at West Genesee High School with an official start date of July 1, 2022.

Michelle Collier

Headshot of Michelle CollierCollier has been with West Genesee for 20 years as a classroom teacher and Instructional Support Specialist. The use of data-driven meetings and research-based academic interventions for students has been coupled with mentoring others on literacy instruction. Her recent administrative work in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) has been invaluable during the implementation of Professional Learning Community (PLC), as well as creating supporting resources, coaching instructional conversations with administration and faculty, and coordinating screening for social emotional behaviors and resulting support for students. Past areas of leadership included her work with the District Strategic Planning Committee, involvement with the Literacy Institute, serving as a Grade-Level Chair, turn-key training technology initiatives, and training in the Crisis Prevention Institute.

She holds a Certificate of Advanced Study inclusive of a School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL) from Le Moyne College, a Master of Arts, Elementary Education from SUNY Cortland and a Bachelor of Arts, Elementary Education from SUNY Potsdam.

On a personal note, Collier shares that her family has lived in the West Genesee District for the past 18 years and loves being a part of the community. Her oldest son, Riley, is graduating with the class of 2022 and her younger son, Dillon, will be a junior. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, gardening, and taking walks with her two dogs.

Dan MacCollum

headshot of Dan MacCollumMacCollum comes to us most recently from Cato-Meridian CSD where he currently serves as Cato-Meridian Intern Assistant Jr./Sr. High School Principal. Prior to his administrative experience, he was a music teacher for 14 years; 6 years at Cato-Meridian CSD and 8 years previously at Vernon-Verona-Sherrill CSD. He served as a mentor teacher, worked with Emergency Response Team, District Strategic Planning Core Team, School Improvement Team, Grading Committee, and was trained as a Collaborative Workshop Facilitator.

His Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership inclusive of School Building Leadership and School District Leadership is from SUNY Oswego, where he also received a Master of Science, Educational Curriculum and Instruction. His Bachelor of Music, Music Education was earned at Ithaca College following his Associates Degree at Onondaga Community College.

On a personal note, MacCollum shares that he is a native of Central New York and lives in Jordan with his wife Caitlin and daughters: Kendall (10), Brynn (8), and Layla (4).  He enjoys spending time with his family, working outside, sports, and live music.
