The West Genesee Board of Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Schiedo as the Interim Superintendent of West Genesee Schools. His appointment was approved on February 6, 2019 at the regular meeting of the board of education and is effective immediately.
Michael brings 34 years of teaching and administrative experience to West Genesee. Before retirement he was Superintendent of the Chittenango Central School District and Superintendent at Lyncourt Union Free School District prior to that. Schiedo received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees along with his Certificate of Advanced Studies in Educational Leadership from SUNY Cortland. He is eager, and enthusiastic to be a part of the West Genesee culture, to assist in our focus to move forward, and to support us during our search for a permanent superintendent.
The Board is currently deliberating on who will facilitate the superintendent search; and expect to be voting on this decision at the March 6, 2019 regular board meeting. One of the steps of this upcoming comprehensive search is a community survey that is available on the District website. The survey seeks community input on the most desirable qualities in a superintendent candidate. It will be open until February 28, 2019. (The survey is now closed.)
Overall, the search for a new superintendent is expected to take several months, with the goal of having the new candidate begin his/her post by before the start of the new school year next fall. In addition to the community survey, the West Genesee Board of Education will invite District stakeholders to take part by participating in candidate interviews once the final slate of candidates is determined.
A sincere thank you goes out to Dr. Jody Manning for stepping in these past few weeks and assisting us in selecting our interim. His time here, while brief was extremely valuable, and is very much appreciated.
