2018-2019 BUDGET

MAY 2, 2018

MINUTES of the PUBLIC HEARING of the inhabitants of the West Genesee Central School District held MAY 2, 2018 in the West Genesee High School Library.

The purpose of the meeting was to conduct a public hearing on the proposed 2018-19 budget, pursuant to Section 2017 of the New York State Education Law, in lieu of the annual meeting required by statute.

HEARING CALLED TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by the District Clerk, Paul Pelton, at 7:00 p.m.

PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

Mr. Pelton led those in attendance in the Pledge of Allegiance.

INTRODUCTION OF CHAIRPERSON

Mr. Pelton introduced Mrs. Roberta Herron, who was recognized as the chairperson for this Public Hearing.

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

A. Motion: Vladimiro Hart-Zavoli

Moved to dispense with the reading of the legal notice required to be published for this Public Hearing and the May 15, 2018 Annual Vote on the Budget, School Buses Proposition, Library Propositions, and Safety and Security Improvements Proposition, and the Election of Candidates to the Board of Education.

Second: Shawn Mitchell

The motion was passed by acclamation.

READING OF THE MINUTES

B. Motion: Vladimiro Hart-Zavoli

Moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the Public Hearings held on May 3, 2017, December 20, 2017 and the Annual District Meeting held on May 16, 2017.

Second: Shawn Mitchell

The motion was passed by acclamation.

INTRODUCTION OF THE CANDIDATES FOR THE BOARD OF EDUCATION

Mrs. Herron introduced the candidates in attendance for the four vacant Board of Education seats. Kimberly Coyne, Vladimiro Hart-Zavoli, Joseph Simon, and Barbara Wells each gave a brief overview of their background and reasons for running for the Board of Education.

PRESENTATION OF PROPOSED 2017-2018 BUDGET

Superintendent Dr. Christopher Brown presented the 2019-2019 budget which carries an estimated tax levy increase of 2.5% which meets all tax cap guidelines. He summarized all propositions, including the District School Bus Proposition and the Safety and Security Improvements Proposition. He then mentioned the two library propositions and directed people with questions regarding the libraries to contact them directly.

QUESTIONS

Chairperson Herron then opened the floor for questions.

Alex Polge, of 310 Scott Ave, asked when the work on Proposition 4 would actually start. Dr. Brown responded that the target is to begin in August, pending SED approval.

Moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:59 p.m.

The motion was passed by acclamation.

Roberta Herron declared the meeting adjourned and announced that the Annual Budget Vote, Election of Board Members, District Vehicles Proposition, Library Propositions, and Safety and Security Improvements Propositions vote will be held from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the lobby of the West Genesee High School Auditorium on May 15, 2018.
