SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT

Interim Superintendent Mike Schiedo opened his remarks with an update on the superintendent search, noting that the closing date for applications is April 22, 2019. He also noted that the High School Executive Principal search is in the stage of interviewing applicants, and the search for a Stonehedge Elementary Principal has begun. Mr. Schiedo spoke about the ELA testing, and the glitches that some New York schools have experienced. Fortunately, West Genesee did not have any serious problems. Mr. Schiedo gave updates on the capital project, the Raptor Security System, and West Side Support Network. He also mentioned the PTA/PTO budget presentation on April 23, 2019, and concluded his report by congratulating the Boys and Girls Basketball teams on their honorable accomplishments throughout their amazing seasons.

OPEN FORUM

Mike Schiedo and Mike Burns recognized the Boys and the Girls Basketball Teams for their 2018-19 accomplishments. The Board of Education extended its congratulations.

Jeannette Clark reflected on the career of Loretta Chomyszak, a Fourth Grade Teacher at Onondaga Road Elementary School, who will retire at the end of this school year. Most recently, Loretta has been instrumental in implementing the shift in ELA and reading instruction. In retirement, Loretta will be able to spend more time with her husband, and travel to see her daughters and her granddaughter. Loretta’s expertise and leadership will be missed.

Matt Kimpland spoke of Wende Ogden’s retirement following 20 years of service at Split Rock Elementary School. Matt noted that Wende taught both Second and Third Grades during her tenure. No matter the circumstances, Wende’s loving, warm, care-free nature was consistent. We wish her nothing but the best.

Barry Copeland noted the retirement of John Christian. John will retire after 27 years of service as a Mathematics Teacher at West Genesee High School. John has also been a department chair and the WGTA President in the past. John’s hard work in implementing Graphing Calculators was invaluable.

Barry Copeland went on to recognize Pam Agricola, whose retirement comes after 22 years as a Teaching Assistant in the Pro School program at West Genesee High School. Pam worked tirelessly to coordinate many service activities including the Honors Reception, the Harvest Dinner, Hats 4 the Holidays, and many others. Pam also participated in our Mock Crash simulation as a grieving parent.

Barry Copeland also commented on Chris Tarolli’s retirement from her position as a Typist I, having been a major figure in the Guidance Department for the past 11 years. He noted that Chris also worked for 10 years at Camillus Middle School, totaling 21 years with the District. In retirement, Chris plans to spend more time with her family.

Brian Kesel spoke of Lori Keevil’s retirement from West Genesee after 25 years of service, including the last 13 years as the principal at Stonehedge Blue Elementary School. Brian noted that Lori has been instrumental in transforming our literacy program and implementation of full-day Kindergarten.

Frank Kobliski asked about committees for the superintendent search. Vice President Mitchell responded to Mr. Kobliski and outlined the process moving forward from today.
