OPEN FORUM

Todd Freeman recognized Margaret Curtin’s retirement, commenting on her career at Split Rock Elementary School, noting that it all started when she called the Principal and began volunteering. Peg worked with Mrs. Keevil, also became a Teaching Assistant for Mrs. Callahan, eventually becoming her long-term sub. Peg has been a presence at many school functions over the years.

Todd Freeman spoke of Margaret Wirth’s retirement as he recalled a conversation he had with her a few weeks ago about “the best job she never got” at West Genesee. Midge started her career in education as an Early Literacy Teaching Assistant. She was told by Mr. VandeCarr that she was under employed and needed to get her degree and become a teacher. She has been a pillar at Split Rock Elementary School.

Michael McGrath reflected on Michele Almonte’s 32 years with the West Genesee School District. She worked at Stonehedge, Onondaga Road, and West Genesee Junior High. Since then she has been solely at what is now West Genesee Middle School. Mr. McGrath noted her many valuable qualities; caring, supportive, professional, organized, thorough, and reliable. He called her retirement a loss of “Derek Jeter scale” and invited everyone to join him in wishing her well.

Lori Keevil noted Patricia Munley’s retirement after 27 years teaching Stonehedge’s first-graders. Miss Munley has told Lori that teaching young children how to read and sharing in their excitement has been an amazing and rewarding experience. Lori wished her well and said that Miss Munley’s kindness, patience, positive attitude, and enthusiasm for teaching will be missed at Stonehedge.
