Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have received many inquiries and concerns over yesterday’s bus incident. It is inexcusable that a 21 year old was allowed onto a middle school bus. While we acknowledge that this was unsettling for many of the students, the individual who boarded the bus was cooperative and responsive at all times when directed by the bus driver. Upon arrival at the middle school, he was also very cooperative with the principal and the Camillus Police.
I would like to reassure you that we immediately began investigating, on all levels, how this possibly could have happened. This investigation is ongoing. It is a confidential personnel matter, but appropriate disciplinary action will be taken, if warranted.
Local law enforcement is working closely with us, and we are seeking a restraining order to keep this individual away from school buses, property, students, and all events related to the District.
We have learned a great deal from this incident. As a result, protocols and procedures are going to be enhanced and training will occur to prevent any additional situations like this from happening in the future.
Respectfully,
Michael Schiedo
Interim Superintendent of Schools
West Genesee Central School District
