September 4, 2020
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students,
We are writing to update you on the scheduling process at West Genesee High School. Courses offered for the Fall of 2020 were selected based on the number of student requests, as well as available certified staff and building space. Our elective options are limited based on staff availability and teacher certification. Priority was given to staffing core courses required by
New York State for graduation. Section numbers were increased to align with the NYS Department of Health guidelines. In order to meet the guidelines for room capacity a typical course section needed to be increased to 2-3 sections, which limits the number of electives we are able to offer. As of now, scheduling decisions for the Spring will be determined based on updated information from the state.
This year, WGHS will operate with a six period day. Depending on availability, students will be scheduled for up to six courses, which will include four core classes and two elective options. In addition, all students will be scheduled for online Physical Education to meet NYS requirements. While we have worked to reduce movement in the building, students will still transition from class to class. Juniors and Seniors ONLY may have the option to arrive late or leave early if they have parent approval, their course placement allows, they are on track for graduation, and they are able to provide their own transportation.
Counselors recently gained access to the WGHS schedule on SchoolTool after instructional staffing was determined and families finalized their decision regarding hybrid or remote instruction. They are currently making phone calls and emailing home in an attempt to finalize student schedules. Please be sure to return any calls from your school counselor to work out
scheduling conflicts.
We appreciate your patience during this time. Counselors are working diligently and will be in touch soon.
Sincerely,
West Genesee High School Administrative Team and Counseling Staff
