Message from Supt. Bills Confirming Return to In-Person Instruction

Printable Version of Letter

January 3, 2021

Good afternoon,

This brief message is to confirm that all West Genesee CSD schools will resume our 2020-21 instructional format beginning Monday, January 4, 2021. This follows a temporary fully remote setting from December 17-23. We will now return to a hybrid (in-person/remote Grades 5-12), in-person (Grades K-4), and fully remote (K-12 option) setting.

Per the letter of December 14, we continue to monitor positive COVID-19 cases along with corresponding isolation or quarantine periods*. This will be carefully reviewed daily with regard to our student attendance and staffing needs for in-person learning.

*Note: Onondaga County, per NYS adoption and CDC guidelines, has moved to a 10 day mandated quarantine period (a change from 14) for all persons considered to be in contact with an individual testing positive during the infectious period.

Thank you for your commitment to monitoring your child(ren) for symptoms. It is imperative that students with any signs of being symptomatic should be kept home. As a reminder, those symptoms include:

  • Fever 100.0F or greater/or chills
  • Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Cough
  • Diarrhea

The District continues to take precautions that will included mandated wearing of masks, physical distancing, limiting group size, and promoting safe hygiene practice. These measures are important to keep ourselves safe and make progress against the pandemic.

Sincerely,

David C. Bills
Superintendent of Schools
