Printable Version of the Letter
June 6, 2021
Dear parents/guardians, students, and community members,
This communication is written prior to the return to classrooms tomorrow morning to clarify that there has been no official legal change in the mask mandate from the New York State Education Department (NYSED), New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), or Governor Andrew Cuomo. The June 4 letter by Health Commissioner Howard Zucker reported by the media on Friday was written to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to determine any objection to relaxing mask mandates. Unless and until written guidance or an Executive Order is issued by New York State, all students, staff, and visitors to the West Genesee School District must wear masks while on school property.
If we receive direction from the State that changes the mask wearing requirements at school, we will promptly communicate the change to our staff, students, and parents.
Of course, we recognize that temperatures are predicted to rise this week. We will monitor conditions to include appropriate adjustments for students relative to physical activity within the curriculum, recess, and extra-curricular activities.
Thank you for your continued patience with this difficult school year. We have few remaining days and will continue our work together to bring the school year to a successful close.
Sincerely,
David C. Bills
Superintendent of Schools
West Genesee Central School District
