Dear Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, and Students,

We are so excited to welcome students back to our building in just a couple of weeks! Before returning, there are a few things we wanted to get out to students and families while you are planning for transportation and back-to-school shopping.

First, we have updated our WGHS Dress Code for the 2022-2033 school year. We had a team come together this summer to look at our previous dress code and make some adjustments with the intent of fostering a safe and conducive environment for teaching and student learning. As noted in the document, the responsibility for the dress and grooming of a student rests primarily with the student and their parents or guardians. West Genesee High School is responsible for ensuring that student attire, jewelry, and personal items do not interfere with the health or safety of any student and do not contribute to a hostile or intimidating environment for any student. Please take time to review the updated dress code, linked HERE, with your student.

In addition, students who drive to school and park in the lot behind Lowe’s will not be able to walk behind the buses and enter the building through the E-wing due to construction taking place around the turf field. Students parking in this lot will need to walk along the fence towards the old Applebee’s, cross the staff parking lot, and enter through the atrium doors with students arriving by bus. This is a temporary construction issue as they work on the sidewalks and we will notify everyone when the E-wing entrance is re-opened. Please remind your students to be extra careful as they are crossing the parking lot. This is a high traffic area with buses and staff arriving at school. If you are uncomfortable with your student walking this route from the parking lot, please contact the transportation office to make arrangements for your student to ride the bus to school while construction is underway.

Finally, due to our shift to a new student management system, Synergy, we are not able to number class periods in the same way this year. With Synergy, all student schedules are driven by their lunch period. Earlier this week I shared a video with the community HERE on how to read a student schedule. As schedules are released on Synergy, please check out the video if you have any questions!

Thank you for your cooperation and we look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,

WGHS Administration
Tracy Klefbeck, Building Principal
Thomas Vaughan, Principal for Academic Affairs
Michelle Collier, Assistant Principal
Dan MacCollum, Assistant Principal
Jessica Fisher, Administrative Intern
