Printable Version of the Letter to Parents/Guardians from the Interim Superintendent
February 14, 2019
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I would like to make you aware of an incident that occurred this morning on a West Genesee Central School District bus headed to Camillus Middle School.
A male individual requested to board the bus at a regular scheduled bus stop indicating he was a new student and that he wanted to register to finish school. The bus driver contacted the transportation department to request direction. A decision was made to allow the person to board the bus.
The Camillus Middle School Principal, Beth Lozier, was contacted, and along with an aide, met the bus in the parking lot. The Camillus Police were then contacted and they responded to Camillus Middle School, and the individual is now with them. Most importantly, no students were harmed during this situation.
Our bus drivers recently received Armoured One safety training, and we are reviewing policies and procedures to consider retraining our drivers and transportation staff as necessary. We are taking this situation very seriously, and we are handling it internally as needed.
We will put all necessary measures in place to ensure that this does not happen again. The safety of all children is our top priority.
Respectfully,
Michael Schiedo
Interim Superintendent of Schools
West Genesee Central School District
