Message from Supt. Bills about Social Media

Dear Parents/Guardians/Caregivers and WGHS Students,

In the past hour we were made aware of a post that has circulated on various forms of social media that was not made in West Genesee, but has begun to circulate in our school community. The post identifies a threat taking place on Tuesday, and after a thorough NYS investigation, has been deemed not credible.

We have been in contact with the Camillus Police Department who have worked with other law enforcement officials to confirm the origin. The source of the threat was identified as early as yesterday afternoon per a report from the Schenectady Police Department. A juvenile local to that area created a fake account and modified a threat template with names of local schools/towns.

There have been reports of the post repeating throughout NYS. We have seen a similar second hand post that references CNY schools and follows the same template. Again, Camillus Police have confirmed this is not credible.

We will maintain our level of security in all West Genesee School District Buildings and remind everyone of “See something/Say Something” and to use our Tip411 Hotline whenever there is evidence of a concern.

Thank you,

David C. Bills
Superintendent of Schools
West Genesee CSD
