Dear Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, Students, and Staff,

The West Genesee High School Restorative Council met yesterday in response to a racist statement that was found by a student written in a bathroom stall and was reported to administration.

The Restorative Council consists of students, staff, and community members. The purpose of the council is to convene within 24 hours of an incident to coordinate response and plan preventative actions. In addition, the council is working to develop proactive measures.

The Camillus Police Department was notified immediately and is assisting in the investigation. We ask that anyone who has information in regards to this incident contact Principal Lawson immediately. It is the responsibility of all members of our school community to tell someone if you know something. Those found guilty of spreading hate in our building will be held accountable to the fullest extent of our code of conduct.

The West Genesee Restorative Council, in conjunction with students and staff, will continue the work to ensure that all of our students feel welcome and accepted at West Genesee High School. Racism will not be tolerated.

Sincerely,

Sarah Gentile, Coordinator for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Tracy Klefbeck, Principal for Building Operations
