Background
Onondaga Road Elementary School is a K-5 school in the West Genesee School District. It is located just west of Syracuse, New York in the town of Camillus. Our current enrollment is about 300 students with an average class size of 20 students.
We are very proud of the faculty members of our school. All are well qualified in their teaching areas. They do everything in their power to ensure that every child reaches all the district Learner Outcomes for each grade level.
Our teaching staff consist of 15 classroom teachers and 2.5 special education teachers. Also, we have two (.6) music, one (.6) art, one (1.0) physical education, two (.4) instrumental teachers and one (.6) librarian. Our support staff includes one (1.0) speech language therapist, three (2.0) AIS teachers, one (.6) school psychologist, one (.6) school counselor, and one (1.0) school nurse. In addition, we have a number of teacher assistants and aides who work in classrooms.
This building was renovated in 1992. At the time of the renovations we added a computer network system of five desktop computers in every classroom.. Since then, we have added a variety of technology resources, including a computer lab equipped with laptops, research stations in our library, a computerized library operation system, netbook carts, an interactive Promethean Board in each classroom and wireless internet access. Students use technology on a daily basis as an integral part of instruction in all content areas.
Our school has a very active Parent Teacher Association (PTA). It provides a wide range of support and activities for our children. They support our parent volunteer program in classrooms. Throughout the year they sponsor many enrichment opportunities for all students.
The Onondaga Road school community is committed to providing all our students with the educational experience necessary for them to reach all the standards set by New York State. Through the combined efforts of all, we work to create an outstanding learning environment for our students.
