Over 50 West Genesee High School students went to Stonehedge on April 20 to read to 132 first graders as part of the UMOJA Reading Buddies Program.
Each first-grade student and classroom teacher received the book, I Promise by LeBron James. The high school students spent time with a small group of first graders reading and completing a promise activity. They will also be surprising other first grade classrooms around the District with classroom sets as well. The high school students and the Stonehedge students were very excited!
UMOJA members have been raising funds all year to bring diverse books to District classrooms. This year they have given close to 400 books to K-6 students.
