Statement from Supt. Bills: Recent Developments in Europe

February 27, 2022

To Families, Staff, and Students,

We are all aware of the recent developments in Europe. I am saddened and outraged by the Russian invasion and actions of war in Ukraine. My thoughts and prayers go to all with connections to that region of the world and to those serving the United States Armed Forces in protection of surrounding countries. West Genesee stands ready to support our students and our employees who are impacted by the conflict.

Fred Rogers was a visible and calming presence for me growing up. Certainly, my family was a foundation of support and the greatest influence, but when I saw “Mr. Rogers” through the same medium as world events that could be confusing or scary, his wisdom was welcomed. I have referenced in the past his family support with a quote from his mother, who in these circumstances would say to him, “Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”

Please be reminded that there are “helpers” all around us. Despite the feeling that our resiliency has been frequently challenged in past months, we will continue to work together. As we return to school tomorrow, our staff will be watchful of all our students and each other for related needs and particularly for those with close connections to the conflict in Ukraine. We are a community that will ask for and offer help when it is needed.

Should you need additional support, please reach out to any of the school buildings or District Office.
