Students Compete at District Spelling Bee and Continue to Compete

Congratulations to WGMS students Harrison Card (6th grade) and Joseph Paoli (8th grade), along with CMS student Payton Voss (9th grade) for advancing Saturday, January 25,  to the oral round of The Post-Standard | syracuse.com | WCNY Spelling Bee.

They along with 32 other CNY students scored the highest among the 160 students who participated in the written qualifying exam at Christian Brothers Academy in DeWitt.

They oral round will be held at WCNY in Syracuse on February 29. The winner of the oral round will win a trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which will be held May 24 to 29.

District Spelling Bee WInnersOn November 7, West Genesee students Josephine Simpson (WGMS) and Edison Coles (Split Rock) came in first and second place, respectively, in the West Genesee Spelling Bee. They faced-off spelling such words as: legitimate, circumstantial, acquaintance, insufficient, decaffeinated; and the final two words spelled by the overall winner were: delicatessen and collaboration.

West Genesee will send 12 students to join others from Central New York to participate in the Syracuse.com / Scripps written Spelling Bee on January 25, 2020 at Christian Brothers Academy.
