Transportation Reminder

The West Genesee Central School District is proud of our Transportation Department and thankful for the work that is done each day by our drivers, monitors, mechanics, and dispatchers.

As is true across NYS, there is currently a shortage of staff, particularly those driving our students to school and home each day. Should there be an unexpected high degree of absences, we recently shared a contingency plan that has the least impact on our students’ learning experience.

Our plan will include delaying certain buses at one or more of our buildings.  Once the affected schools have been determined, an alert from our SchoolMessenger system will go out to families identifying the affected buses and the approximate time delayed. It will be important for parents, guardians, and caregivers to be watchful of such an early morning message.  In many cases, these same buses will also be on an adjusted dismissal for that afternoon. In those circumstances, a second message will be sent as early in the day as possible to confirm that information.

This plan will be used on an as needed basis and will rotate among schools to the extent possible. Of course, families with riders impacted may opt to transport their child(ren) to or from school at the scheduled time. This would occur with the guidelines and procedures in place for each school as applicable. (Thank you, in advance, if you are able to help in that way!)

We appreciate your understanding and patience as we continue to maneuver operations to maintain in-person instruction for all students during these unprecedented times.

Note: Emergency Closing Information Reminder

As a reminder, announcements about more “typical” (weather related, etc.) school closings , delayed openings, or early dismissal will be posted on the News Headlines section of the District website home page. They are also broadcast on Twitter, Facebook, and the other media sources which you can access by clicking here.
