April 16, 2021

Dear Seniors, Parents, and Friends of the Class of 2021,

This week, we received guidance from New York State for “End of Academic Year Celebrations”. After consulting with Superintendent Bills and the Senior Class officers, we are excited to announce more details about senior events.

**All events are subject to change based on updates to
NYS or Onondaga County health and safety guidelines**

Cap and Gown Day (Friday, May 7th):

  • Seniors will attend their 1st period class for attendance.
  • The PTSA and the Senior Class will treat the students to Glazed and Confused donuts.
  • More info about activities this day will be coming soon!
  • Seniors will receive their caps and gowns before they are dismissed by 10:00am.
  • If you have questions about your order or need to pay your balance, please contact Jostens at (315) 656-5152 or email them at larry.dewitt@jostens.com.

Senior Awards Night (Monday, May 24th):

  • Award recipients will be allowed to have TWO guests per the occupancy guidelines for indoor gatherings. Seniors will be gathered in a different location than the audience.
  • All spectators and honorees will be expected to complete a health screening questionnaire and wear face masks for this entire event.
  • Mr. Ackles’ Awards Night team is working on the details of this night, and you will be notified soon if you are invited.
  • This event will be live streamed.

Senior Ball (Friday, June 4th–rain date Saturday, June 5th):

  • Seniors will attend their 1st period class for attendance.
  • CPD will run the Mock Crash in the front circle.
  • Seniors will be dismissed immediately following the Mock Crash.
  • The NYS guidelines allow for us to gather in larger numbers if we require testing or vaccinations. We have decided that this will be the safest way to gather our seniors for Senior Ball. This will also enable us to allow seniors to have guests accompany them (from WGHS or other districts) with our normal guest application and commitment from a parent/guardian that the guest will adhere to the NYS guidelines and the WGHS school handbook. We know this was a major concern for seniors, and we are happy to be able to offer this!
  • Individual appetizers and desserts will be provided in adherence with the NYS guidelines.
  • Seniors will be charged a reduced price for entry this year!

More information about Senior Ball will be coming soon! We know that seniors and their families were eager for the basic information to aid in their planning.

Senior Walk Day (Friday, June 11th):

  • Seniors will be allowed to participate in our traditional “Chalk the Walk” and Elementary School Walks this year! Seniors should wear their caps and tassels as well as a shirt that announces their future plans or their senior class shirt. They will also watch the senior video that morning.
  • More information will follow as we determine the schedule for that day.

Senior Celebration (Friday, June 11th–rain date Saturday, June 12th):

  • This is the traditional “After Ball Party” and will be held outside on school grounds.
  • Additional information will be coming from the PTSA about this event.

Graduation (Saturday, June 19th–rain date Sunday, June 20th):

  • Graduation will take place on our Stadium Field.
  • In adherence with the NYS guidelines, we will be able to allow guests with proof of testing or vaccination, completion of a health screening questionnaire, and completion of a contact tracing form. Face masks will also be required. Based on the current guidelines, we anticipate three guests per graduate. Graduation will also be live streamed.
  • Graduation will most likely take place in 3 groups. The times and organization of these groups will be announced soon.
  • GRADUATION REHEARSAL (Wednesday, June 16th)
    • Rehearsal is mandatory, so please be sure that seniors’ work schedules are clear for the afternoon.
    • Seniors will be assigned a rehearsal time based on the organization of graduation groups.

We are thrilled to receive the NYS Guidance to plan for these graduation events. We are looking forward to participating in our treasured Wildcat senior traditions! Please see all senior communications on the Senior Bulletin on the WGHS website, especially the last letter about deadline reminders for class speakers, the class poem, and photos for the senior video.
