Six West Genesee musicians were selected to attend the ACDA (American Choral Directors Association) Eastern Region 2020 Convention in Rochester, New York on March 4-7.
Angelo Procopio (CMS 8th grade) and Olivia Frizzi (WGHS 9th grade) attended. The following students were selected, but were unable to attend: Daniel Alvaro (CMS 8th grade), Sean Alvaro (WGHS 9th grade), Holden Leonard (WGHS 9th grade), and Margaret Mello (WGHS 9th grade).
All students submitted a recorded audition in spring 2019 and were selected to participate in fall 2019. The students participated in the auditioned Junior High Honor Choir directed by Dr. Lynnel Joy Jenkins of the Princeton Girls Choir, Princeton, New Jersey and choral teacher at the Timberlane Middle School of the Hopewell Valley Regional School District in Pennington, New Jersey.
The Junior High Honor Choir is one of four honor choirs at the convention, made up of 150, 7-9 grade students from across the Eastern Region (Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, DC, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, & Vermont).
They rehearsed more than 20 hours together from Wednesday through Saturday, culminating with an Honor Choir performance at Kodak Hall of the Eastman Theatre, at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York.
