Walgreens

Please be advised that the manager at Walgreens contacted the high school to inform us that their parking lot is for customers only. West Genesee students who park there may be subject to towing. Thank you for your cooperation.

Dear Parents, Families, Guardians, and Student Drivers,

This morning, junior drivers arrived at school to find the parking lot behind Lowe’s blocked off and inaccessible. At this time, Benderson Development has informed us that students are NOT permitted to park behind Lowe’s or at any of the neighboring business parking lots. They have informed us that starting tomorrow, they will begin towing cars that are left in their parking lots while students are in school. Parking on local private property or on public roadways where no parking zones are established may also be subject to vehicles being towed.

Unfortunately, we were not informed ahead of time that this was going to happen this morning, leaving students scrambling for a place to park for school. As shared in a ParentSquare email on October 28, we have received calls from neighboring businesses expressing their concerns about unsafe driving conditions by our student drivers parking behind Lowe’s. I shared in the email that if things didn’t improve, there was the possibility that Benderson Development would revoke that permission, leaving our students without a place to park.

We do not have enough space on school grounds to accommodate the drivers being displaced from the Lowe’s lot. Only drivers who have been issued a parking pass may park on school grounds. Students are not permitted to park in the staff lot or create their own parking spaces along the fences or sidewalks. If your student needs transportation to school by bus, please contact the transportation department at 315-487-4576 to make arrangements.

We share in your frustration at this sudden change, and I assure you that the district has and is continuing to explore alternatives and communicate with Benderson Development in hopes of coming to an arrangement that will accommodate our drivers.

Sincerely,

Tracy Klefbeck
