academic decathlon

WGHS hosted the NYAD (New York Academic Decathlon) State competition on February 25, 2026. In attendance were West Genesee, Westhill, Cazenovia, Jamesville-DeWitt, and FITree Learning. 

Cazenovia placed first, West Genesee placed second, and Westhill placed third.

West Genesee earned a team total of 30 medals! Here is the breakdown per student:

  • Lucas Long: 8 medals (7 gold: art, economics, literature, math, music, science, overall scholastic division; 1 silver: social science)

  • David Nolan Daniels: 6 medals (1 gold: essay; 1 silver: speech; 4 bronze: art, economics, music, and science)

  • Katherine Reed: 5 medals (3 silver: art, math, social science; 2 bronze: interview and science)

  • Madelyn Neuman: 5 medals (2 gold: essay and math; 1 silver: literature; 2 bronze: art and music)

  • Landon Duda: 3 medals (1 gold: economics; 1 silver: science; 1 bronze: essay)

  • Nadia Farino: 1 medal (silver: art)

  • Lillian Lesperance: 1 medal (bronze: social science)

  • Michael Creedon: 1 medal (bronze: science)
