On April 17, 2026 the transportation department together with the Onondaga County Traffic Safety Advisor Board and the Camillus Police department will be holding an Operation Safe Stop Event.
Operation Safe Stop is a proactive approach to educate the motoring public that passing a stopped school bus, when children are loading or unloading, is both dangerous and illegal. Law enforcement agencies, school transportation providers, pupil transportation associations, and Onondaga County Traffic Safety Board have combined their efforts to raise public awareness about the potential consequences of these traffic violations and reduce the occurrence of illegal school bus passes.
The Camillus Police Department will be out patrolling "Hot Spots" where bus drivers have reported motorists passing their reds while loading or unloading students and there will also be a press conference held at the West Genesee Central School District Transportation area.
