Academic Decathlon Thanks

West Genesee High School Academic Decathlon Team students traveled to Garden Grove to compete in the United States Academic Decathlon Nationals 2025–2026 held April 23–25.

The competition features ten individual events—Literature, Music, Science, Art, Economics, Mathematics, Social Science, Interview, Essay, and Speech—along with a team event, the Super Quiz. During the Super Quiz, students collaborate to answer questions while an enthusiastic audience cheers them on as they raise flags to signal correct responses.

At the national level, teams are divided into five divisions (I–V). West Genesee competed in Division V and delivered a strong performance. Within each division, students are further grouped into three scoring categories: Varsity, Scholastic, and Honors.

  • Lucas Long earned bronze medals in Art (Scholastic) and Essay (Scholastic), as well as a silver medal in Mathematics (Scholastic). He was was also the highest scoring member of our team earning a $250 scholarship from the USAD organization.

  • Madelyn Neuman earned bronze medals in Mathematics (Varsity) and Social Science (Varsity).
