Joe Curtin

On June 3, 2026 Joseph Curtin was appointed by the Board of Education to the position of Principal at East Hill Elementary School replacing Susan Meskos who had retired. HIs start date is July 1, 2026.

Curtin has served West Genesee Schools for 13 years as an elementary classroom teacher, Summer School Principal, District Instructional Coach, and most recently Assistant Principal of Camillus Middle School. Prior to that he was a teacher at Hartwood Elementary School in Virginia. 

Through his educational career, he has earned a School Building Leader Certificate, a Master’s Degree in Education Leadership from University of Mary Washington, and a Bachelors Degree in Childhood Education from SUNY Cortland. His extensive experiences has included facilitation and participation in professional development, organizational growth in buildings, and collaboration with district initiatives and supports.

Superintendent Bills shared, "During building level interviews, instructional staff, support staff, and parents provided praise for Mr. Curtin. His perspective as an educator, parent, and administrative leader provides him a unique background and insight to serve children, families, and staff. His priority to children, vast experience, and steady, heartfelt presence was noted as a match for the East Hill community."

On a personal note, Curtin shares that he is a proud West Genesee graduate and has served the District for the past 13 years as a teacher, basketball coach, mathematics coach, and instructional leader. He and his wife, Judy, have three children—Ellie (10), JJ (8), and Jamie (5). In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, dog training, attending sporting events and concerts, traveling, and an occasional stop at Gannon’s Ice Cream. 

He is excited to join the East Hill community and looks forward to building relationships with students, staff, and families while becoming part of such a special school community.
