Notes from the Nurse-January 9, 2026

It has been wonderful seeing all of your children back here at the Rock after a nice long break off. Thankfully everyone for the most part is coming back in good health and we have avoided much of the viral illnesses amongst ourselves. With that being said, Flu cases in our state are at a record number so please continue to encourage your child in taking good proactive measures to stay healthy. This includes covering our mouths when sneezing and coughing, washing hands frequently, and not sharing food and/or personal items at school.

I have again been depleted of spare clothing. My biggest need at the moment is boys and girls underwear, small and medium pants for both boys and girls, and winter gloves. If you have anything in good condition, please reach out to me anytime!

If you have any questions or would like to inform me of any upcoming absences, please email me at any time at bhind@westgenesee.org or call my office at 315-487-4658. Thank you!

Mr. Hind Nurse's News-December 5, 2025

With the more frequent snowy days - I have been overwhelmed with students coming in wet, requesting a change of clothes, which I have attempted to help with however, they have depleted my stock. Please send your student, regardless of grade or age, with spare clothing. I do not get the spare clothing back most of the time, and I am only able to restock when donations come in. If you notice your child has come home in clothing they borrowed, please wash and return as it provides for the next student who might need them. If you have extra boys/girls pants of all sizes, please reach out to me.

Sneakers - Please ensure your child is coming with proper footwear for the school day as some children have had to stay in boots as we do not have spares of all sizes or numerous pairs of each.

If you know your child will be absent for a planned family trip or when they are sick, please notify me via parentsquare, email or phone in the morning. If you happen to message the teacher, please try to include me.

If you have any questions or would like to inform me of any upcoming absences, please email me at any time at bhind@westgenesee.org or call my office at 315-487-4658. Thank you!

Mr. Hind Nurse's News-October 17, 2025

As the cold season continues to make its presence known, I wanted to remind everyone students are NOT allowed to carry any medication or over-the-counter product on them, including cough drops. If you wish for your child to have access to these items, they can be dropped to me anytime, however I will need an accompanying physician order for it (most pediatricians know this and will have no issue faxing over to me). These are state guidelines we must follow in the District. The only exceptions are student's with self-carry orders for an Epi-Pen, Albuterol Inhaler, etc.

Spare clothing I am doing pretty well on, will keep you all posted with any needs. The only need I see currently is boys underwear or socks - if you have any unopened or very gently used, would love to have them on hand here! With that said - please send your child with the appropriate clothing as the weather continues to change.

In the upcoming month or two, I will be conducting Hearing and Vision Screenings for Grades K, 1 and 3. I will forward any concerns to you via letter and ParentSquare.

If you have any questions or would like to inform me of any upcoming absences, please email me at any time at bhind@westgenesee.org or call my office at 315-487-4658. Thank you!

Notes from the Nurse-October 3, 2025

We kindly ask you not to send your child to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without medication and 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea. That also goes with if I have to send your child home with a fever, they will have to be excused the following day as well. This is for the safety and well-being of all students and staff in our building. Thanks for your understanding.

We had an abundance of caterpillars naturally in our fields that can cause a rash and/or allergic reaction if your child touches it. Please remind your child to refrain from touching insects while outside; our teachers provided the same reminders in class.

Please remember if you have updated contact information, make sure you are letting us know or updating SchoolTool. It becomes very important if I need to contact you due to a sick or injured child.

Fall Weather will come before we know it! Please continue to ensure your child is coming to school with weather appropriate clothing and outdoor gear as needed. We have some on hand but stock is limited and we want all kids to be able to participate in activities outside!

If your child has a well-child appointment, please have the Pediatrician fax or print the school health exam form and send it in. This helps us keep the most up to date records on file.

If you have any questions or would like to inform me of any upcoming absences, please email me at any time at bhind@westgenesee.org or call my office at 315-487-4658. Thank you!

Notes from the Nurse-September 19, 2025

Another great week at the Rock! There has certainly been an evident uptick in viral illness with all of the kids back together. If you think your child is sick and/or has a fever, please keep them home as we hope to keep the spread of illness down in the building. I know of at least 2 flu cases already so never too early to get your child's flu shot this season! I know Pediatric Associates is now offering weekend flu clinics and Wegmans offers walk-in flu shots at all of their locations.

Please remember if you have updated contact information, please make sure you are letting us know or updating schooltool.

Snacks! Please remember to send your child to school with a healthy snack! I know some of the room's keep extras and I try to keep some extra on hand but sometimes our stock runs dry quickly

If your child has a well-child appointment, please have the Pediatrician fax or print the school health exam form and send it in. This helps us keep the most up to date records on file.

Notes from the Nurse-September 5, 2025

Hi Split Rock Families! I am so honored to be able to care for your children this school year. It has been so nice seeing the beautiful smiles walking the hallways the last few days.

Few quick reminders!

If your child is prone to needing a change of clothing, please ensure they are sent with a change of clothes to keep in their locker. I do have extras as-needed. With the cooler fall weather approaching, be mindful of what you're sending them to school in as we want them comfortable outside during recess and PE.

If your child has a well-child appointment, please have the Pediatrician fax or print the school health exam form and send it in. This helps us keep the most up to date records on file.

With all of our children back together, it is without doubt we will start to see the spread of viral illness in the building. In regards to viral illnesses, please monitor your children's health and keep them home if they are sick.

I am looking forward to a great school year and will do my best to keep you informed throughout!

If you have any questions or would like to inform me of any upcoming absences, please email me at any time at bhind@westgenesee.org or call my office at 315-487-4658. Thank you!

Notes from the Nurse-June 20, 2025

Warmer Weather! If your child could benefit from sunscreen during outdoor times, please send it in with them. I just need an email or letter from a parent giving permission for the student to use while in school. Speaking of outdoors, we have already noted a few students with ticks. Please check your child over when they get home.

Also, if your child has a well-child appointment, please have the Pediatrician print the school health exam form and send it in, or email it to me. This helps us keep the most up to date records on file.

If you have any questions or would like to inform me of any upcoming absences, please email me at any time at bhind@westgenesee.org or call my office at 315-487-4658. Thank you!
