Miss Giannino's ADA-PEP Counselor Message-January 9, 2026

Welcome back Split Rock Students and Families!

It has been a great week getting back into routine for all students. I loved hearing all the different things students did over break. The best part from this week was being able to greet all students and remind them they were missed!

Please know I am always available via parent square if you need to share anything or check in with me about your child!

Split Rock Families,

I hope you all have a warm and relaxing break. Please take time as a family to do some of the following activities!

  • Wear your pajamas all day

  • Family game night

  • Read a new book as a family

  • Cook together

  • Build a fort

  • Clean up the house as a family

  • Exercise in a fun way

  • Play in the snow

  • Set goals for the New Year

A few days before returning to school, have conversations with your child about getting back into routine for school. Be mindful about bedtime to help your child feel ready to return to school and get back to learning.

I'll be very excited to welcome our students back into our school building on January 5th 2026!

Miss G

Split Rock Families,

THANK YOU!! Your food and gift card donations have been incredibly generous. These donations will directly benefit West Genesee students and families over our two week winter break.

A special thank you to BJ's Wholesale Club Store# 068 in Clay for their bulk food donation!

In other news, last week I had the pleasure to teach social emotional learning (SEL) lessons in all Kindergarten classrooms. Students learned about the following topics.

Lesson 1: School Counselor Role and Responsibilities
Lesson 2: Introduction to feelings and emotions
Lesson 3: Introduction to coping skills and strategies

Check in with your child and ask them about "Hot Chocolate Breathing".

Miss Giannino's ADA-PEP Counselor Message-November 25, 2025

With the winter season approaching, all families will have a long break from school to prepare for, and many will be celebrating holidays. In many cultures, the winter season is about giving, receiving, and connecting with others. During this time, families may also experience stress and uncertainty. This year, our giving program is different; rather than supporting individual families with gifts, we are asking for your support with a gift card drive to help families with various needs.

If you are in a position to donate this year, we kindly request gift cards to nearby businesses (examples include Aldi, Wegmans, Walmart, or Target). If you’d like to donate a gift card, please send it to school in the provided envelope sent home with your child. The deadline to send in gift cards is December 5th.

Each year, a new list is created, so please sign up if you would like to receive donations. To receive this year, please fill out the attached slip sent home with your child by December 1st to be added to the confidential list and return it to school in the envelope provided, or contact me through Parent Square/email at mgiannino@westgenesee.org

For families who are interested in receiving gifts through the community, the Christmas Bureau is another excellent option. Please follow the link for more information. https://easternusa.salvationarmy.org/empire/syracuse/brighten-the-holidays/

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Please know all forms and calls are kept private and confidential. Thank you, and have a safe and fun winter season!
