Mark your calendars for this exciting upcoming musical at Camillus Middle School; Seussical the Musical on November 6 and 7 at 7:00 p.m. and November 8 at 2:00 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the show, and tickets are $10 general admission.
Step into the whimsical world of Dr. Seuss with our fall musical, "Seussical"! This enchanting, family-friendly show is a vibrant culmination of many of your favorite Seuss stories, masterfully woven into one delightful theatrical adventure. Audiences will be transported to the Jungle of Nool, the tiny world of Whoville, and beyond, guided by the infectious energy of The Cat in the Hat (Kaitlin Grandinetta) who serves as our mischievous narrator.
The heart of the story centers on the gentle, loyal elephant, Horton (Isaiah Schuessler) who discovers and vows to protect the entire civilization of Whoville living on a speck of dust. Horton faces intense ridicule, particularly from the cynical Sour Kangaroo (Avery Paussa) and her pranking trio, the Wickersham Monkeys (Brayden Bielby, Flynn Morschauser, and Levi Pontello). The jungle also features the gossipy Bird Girls (Maya Dufford, Alice Schilling, and Penny Schultz), the glamorous, yet selfish, Mayzie la Bird (Kaia Freeman) who famously convinces Horton to sit on her egg, and the sweet, small-tailed bird, Gertrude McFuzz (Samantha Bowman), who proves to be Horton's loyal soul-mate and the unsung hero who eventually finds the clover with the speck of Whoville on it. Back in Whoville, we meet Jojo (Bridget Villanueva) a young Who with an overactive imagination, her parents, Mr.and Mrs. Mayor (Annabelle Letizia & Victor Vasilev) and the militaristic General Genghis Khan Schmitz (Remy Jansson) who tries to curb Jojo's thinks, but in the end, it is Horton's unwavering conviction—that “a person’s a person, no matter how small”—that saves the day.
Behind the scenes, this massive production is made possible by a dedicated team of adult staff and volunteers. The Musical Director/Producer is Don Schuessler, with dance numbers staged by Choreographer Heather Molina, and the look of the show brought to life by Costumer Cindy Kissane and Set Builders/Painters Jeffrey Bowe, Mark Freeman, and Don Schuessler. The intricate details are handled by Seamstress Selma Salmons, supported by Production Assistants Jennie Gettino and Colleen Condon, and the immersive world is completed by Sound Design by Corey Hobin.
